MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA FOR THE HILLFIELD STRATHALLAN COLLEGE (HSC) CORPORATION
In May of 2005, the Board of Governors reviewed and clarified the criteria for membership in the HSC Corporation. The overarching criterion remains unchanged, in that it is accorded to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the College and acts as an ambassador for it.
The Board felt that more precise criteria needed to be outlined in order to guide both the Governors and staff in clearly identifying those individuals eligible for membership and voting rights. There are three categories of membership: Ordinary (voting), Life (voting) and Honorary (non-voting).
The Board of Governors has made amendments to the Corporation membership criteria as follows:
1. The overall criteria for membership of the Corporation are an individual who has made a significant contribution to the College and acts as an ambassador for the College;
2. Initial membership and continuing membership must be approved by the Executive Committee;
3. The membership of any current member of the Corporation who was elected by virtue of employment with the College or position within the College only, be terminated immediately;
4. Subject to final review by the executive, any member who has not attended the Annual Meeting or has not responded to a proxy notice within the last THREE years is automatically terminated;
5. When a gift is received from a family, both spouses/partners will be granted corporate membership - one voting and one non-voting;
6. Membership in the HSC Corporation will be structured into the following categories:
a. Ordinary Members (Voting) (membership with a finite term)
b. Life Members (Voting)
c. Honorary Members (Non-voting)
Ordinary members would be as follows:
members of the Board of Governors for a term paralleling the term on the Board
members of the Board of Trustees paralleling their term on the Board of Trustees
anyone who makes a financial contribution to the College of $10,000 or greater for a period of 10 (ten) years commencing immediately after the making of said contribution
Life members will be as follow:
anyone who makes a significant financial contribution in the amount of $100,000 or greater
all past Chairs of the Board of Governors
all past Chairs of the Board of Trustees
all individuals who have been a member of the Executive Committee for three one-year terms or more
any member of the Board of Governors who has served six or more years
all Builders and Patrons of the College
Honorary Members would be those designated by Executive committee
These would include but would not be limited to the following:
former staff, including those who were previously voting members, as recommended by the Head of College
retiring staff as recommended by the Head of College
any individual who was previously a voting member as recommended by the Executive
the immediate Past Presidents of the Parents’ Guild and the Alumni Association
