THOUGHT LEADER
Douglas Frosst '82  turned his interest in computers into a career in technology.

Douglas spent the early part of his career in computer programming and software development before moving to technical marketing and product management for remote-access-networking. "I credit HSC for fuelling my interest in computers". says, Douglas.

He spent time writing personal computer software programs for high profile companies before shifting to follow his passion for strategic marketing and communications. With the constant changes in technology, Douglas has been a lifelong learner, earning his Master of Applied Science Degree in Technology Innovation Management at the age of 42. "Many of my greatest achievements have come from forging ahead with an idea I knew would prove beneficial, even if others doubted me."

THE ART OF RISK - Andrew Hammond ’98 has forged a successful career in strategic risk management while keeping HSC close to his heart.

As Senior Vice President for Enterprise Risk at the Royal Bank of Canada, Andrew spends much of his day thinking about what-ifs. With a rapidly evolving market, Andrews position entails understanding and planning various outcomes, including working tirelessly to account for the ripple effects of COVID-19. Andrew spent his time at HSC immersed in the arts. Favouring theatre and music, he went on to graduate from Ryerson University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Technical Theatre Production. After many successful years working for non-profit organizations that focused on the arts and education, Andrew went back to school and earned his MBA in Finance. It was this shift that led him to his career at RBC.

Andrew continues to share his wealth of knowledge by sitting on the Board of Governors at HSC as well as the Finance and Risk Management Committees. Always the first to volunteer his time and efforts, he and his family continue to support HSC at every opportunity. Andrew, with his wife Nora ’98, established the Inspirational Teacher Fund in support of HSC’s endowment, which provides donors with the opportunity to enhance the education of HSC students while also paying homage to the dedicated educators who make the HSC experience so meaningful.

SCIENCE ON THE BRAIN
A personal bond motivates Rachel Lacroix ‘16 in her neuroscience research. Most high school students with a passion for biology find themselves heading into medicine as a natural next step. For Rachel, becoming an MD didn’t feel right for her journey. Recalling her experiences in the science lab at HSC, she knew her passion for science was going to lead her into research and lab work. Influenced by her brother Michael who lives with autism, she was always curious about how environmental factors and genetic variations interact to impact neurodevelopment. After completing her undergraduate degree at Western University, where she volunteered her time and efforts with the Autism Awareness Club, she has turned her focus on completing her Master’s degree in neuroscience at the University of Calgary. She is currently among the first to investigate the effects of glyphosate based herbicides on facets of neurodevelopment in an autism genetic background.
